CableTV

Background

Clearlink’s major business is built around high-performing focused marketing websites created to recommend and sell a variety of different items and services. While there are now more than twelve, CableTV.com was among one of the first three sites created by the company. The brand’s focus was on providing users with information on what television and internet plans to select along with providing affiliate links to sign up for them.

Web Designer

Notable Responsibilities
Product design, web design, information architecture

When
October 2019 — August 2022

Problem

While it is one of the highest performing sites in Clearlink’s repertoire, in 2018 the design of the website hadn’t been touched since it had been first made over ten years earlier. I was hired onto the role of giving it a new full visual revamp all the way from branding to user experience upgrades.

Ideation

To accomplish this update, we started with the logo. While the old logo wasn’t bad, TV is an exciting concept and I believed that a site focused on it deserves something equally exciting. We went through a variety of iterations balancing feedback from stakeholders, design leadership, the marketing team members, and other cross-functional roles to create what you now see on the CableTV website and social media sites. From there, we took the new branding and created a whole new design for the website.

Solution

Immediately, the new style guide was applied to the homepage in the form of a reskin, but the long term intent was to improve the flow on each page to make for more ideal functionality for users. To do this, we created an admittedly large sketch file where we could update one element and it would update it across every page we designed. The goal was to have that same thing implemented in the Wordpress platform as well.

At this point, we were also in the middle of a two-year process of creating a new collaborative design system across all the Clearlink brands that would allow for flexibility and modernity. Since each brand would be using the same foundation for their design system and Wordpress development, the design and development teams of each website could jump over and help other sites with quick ease. This initiative was spearheaded by the creative director and the design director, but as one of the primary product designers on the team, I built out the componentization for all of the comparison table cards that feature prominently on every review shown on the ClearLink websites. The standardized system has since sped up every large update on each site because the teams can collaborate in ways they couldn’t before.
